Lokal Helsinki
Katja Hagelstam’s idea to found Lokal in 2012 stemmed from her role as photographer for a design book project. During the photo sessions she came to realise the wealth of interesting creative talent around her. The result was Lokal, a gallery and a shop combined. Lokal’s curated exhibitions showcase unique works of art and handmade, limited edition design items.
Local small scale production has remained central to Lokal’s ideology ever since, along with aesthetics, the environment, and timeless quality. From the very beginning, the art gallery and shop at Annankatu 9, at the heart of Helsinki, has been an authentic meeting place for creative talent.
Lokal’s carefully curated selection comprises items that are needed every day and that make us feel good. Most importantly, these items are useful and functional. We have made the Lokal online store a world of form and function by Finnish designers and their Nordic neighbours. It’s where renowned artists meet young, up and coming talents in fashion and design.
