Lokal Gallery and Lokal+ Events & Exhibitions

Lokal Gallery and Lokal+ are both closed for the month of July, 2021.

We will be opening with a new exhibition, SPARK, on the 5th of August.

SPARK / Lokal Gallery / 5.8.–4.9.2021

Spark presents new local glass, as interpreted by the young and organic generation.

The breakthrough of the Finnish art industry originally took place largely through glass work, and Finnish glass is still highly valued. The tradition of making glass in dates far back in Finland, yet the skill has long been endangered. Fortunately, however, a new playful and courageous generation has emerged as challengers of the old classics – and in recent years, glass, as a material, has attracted many new artists and designers. The new Finnish glass is distinguished from the classics by its wild, organic and sculptural nature. Although there is still room for utility glassware, the new glass created in the glass cabins of Nuutajärvi, Riihimäki, Aalto University and Suomenlinna steps into something previously unseen. The Spark exhibition brings together new glass artists and designers who represent examples of this phenomenon.

The exhibition is curated in collaboration with artist Milla Vaahtera.

Spark artists: Hanna Anonen, Orcum Edem, Eggs, Anne Hrivonen, Leena Kangaskoski, Päivi Keski-Pomppu, Viivi Lehto, Toivo Molin, Henriikka Pahkala, Paula Pääkkönen, Aleksi Remsu, Milla Vaahtera and Man Yau.
