Exhibitions and unique artwork from local Finnish artists and artisans
Lokal is a Helsinki-based concept gallery bringing forth local artwork and unique design. Lokal’s story began in 2012 when Katja Hagelstam founded Lokal, stemming from perceiving a lack in presentation given to emerging local artists, working especially in the interface of fine art and craftsmanship. At the forefront of our existence has ever since been an appreciation for timeless beauty, the nurturing of real community, and a striving to reflect the harmony of nature.
Our curated group and solo exhibitions host a wide array of works by local artists, visionaries, makers and masters. The regularly, changing sales exhibitions are on view both at our gallery space in the Punavuori district of downtown Helsinki, as well as in our Online Gallery. Our gallery at Annankatu also hosts a selection exclusive home items skilfully designed and crafted from all-natural materials by local artisans. Occasionally we also host satellite shows internationally.
We are inspired by what is found in the connecting seams between artistic expression, artisanship, and craft. Culturally, a close relationship to the natural world shapes our way of thinking and our understanding of materials and their value. Craftsmanship is not only a way of being in an intimate dialogue with that which surrounds us, it also is an education in valuable heritage and ecological consciousness. Sustainability is something we embed in all our activity, ranging from uncompromising quality of small-scale production, to cultivating supportive social atmospheres within our ever-growing Lokal Community.
