Our Mission

The world of Lokal is made of meaningful connections between art, artisanship, skill and craft. The appreciation of form, timelessness and high quality have inspired Finnish design icons. The close relationship between Nordic lifestyle and nature has shaped our way of thinking and our understanding of materials. We have had the privilege to live surrounded by beautiful and functional design.

Here at Lokal, we believe that every little choice makes a difference. By consuming more consciously, we can have an impact on everything from climate change to urbanisation. If we lose the traditional artisanal craft skills, we will lose a part of our valuable heritage, too. Lokal Helsinki wants to help keep craftmanship alive, while providing multi-sensory experiences. Local skills matter.

Lokal Gallery specialises in showcasing unique and limited edition items by local artists, designers and artisans. Temporary exhibitions aim to provide new experiences, which revolve around an exceptional understanding of material, whether that’s glass, ceramics, wood, or textile. The artists’ landscapes are inspired by towns as well as villages, the past as well as the present. Lokal Gallery is a space for creativity.

Responsibility is a broad concept. It’s time for a change. People are ready to make conscious and sustainable consumption choices. The ideology of Lokal is a dialogue driven by a changing lifestyle. More and more of us want to be part of the change for the better.
