The works of five Korean and Finnish artists, who work by hand using different natural materials, correspond as if they are exchanging handwritten letters. It creates a temporary “commune” where diverse elements such as people and objects from here and there, light and colour of time and space converge and leave a lasting impression.
For three consecutive weekends we will host an event that we hope will spark your festive spirit and thoughtful gift-giving. Lokal Bazar: Works on Paper brings together a curated selection of artists’ drawings, paintings and prints on paper.

In the wintertime exhibition, wood and ceramics complement each other. The pitch black and glossy white wooden surfaces and the tones of red clay brick alongside porcelain are windows to other worlds – they bring play, warmth and comfort to the middle of this season.
Waltter Mahlberg is a modern craftsman from Helsinki, Finland. Waltter creates sculptural objects, functional furniture and mixture of them both.
Curated by Katja Hagelstam of Lokal Gallery, the collection Between Earth and Sky showcases the work of eleven contemporary designers through ceramic, wood and glass pieces, as well as sustainable household linen by Lapuan Kankurit.
Kira Catani (b. 1993) is a ceramics artist based in Helsinki. Her goal is to create ceramics that are both functional and visually engaging, offering meaning to those who use them.
Petri Saarikko is a Helsinki-based artist and designer whose work is invested in experiential understanding of the world, particularly through the prisms of visible light and colour.

Saija Starr is a painter living in Helsinki. Recent works depict nature and human nature, memories and memories of places that have left a strong trace in memory. Starr’s painting style is expressive, and colours play a most important role.We visited her studio just as the last coat of paint was drying on her pieces to be included in her Lokal White Wall exhibition, Tranquility.
Akiko Mori was born in Japan and studied sculpture at Art University in Tokyo. In 2022 she opened her new studio in Helsinki, which we visited to mark her Lokal White Wall exhibition, Geometric Spaces. She is interested in how physical properties, such as clay density and water content, affect the fluidity of the clay.
