‘While making jewellery, I love fitting different elements together, and my work often naturally evolves during the process. That is how I came up with the new PILVI series for Lokal Kollektion.’

Introducing PILVI jewellery serie for Lokal Kollektion

Päivi Keski-Pomppu has exclusively designed the new PILVI jewellery series for Lokal Kollektion. The collection of silver earrings, necklaces and rings consists of beautiful pieces to wear both everyday and for festive occasions. Every piece is handcrafted by the designer in her studio in Helsinki, Finland.

‘I was really excited when I first got the possibility to design something for the Lokal Kollektion. I was bursting with ideas, different shapes and textures, but wanted to calm it down and give the jewellery a calm presence and clarity. I wanted these pieces to be gentle, just like Lokal’s values are. Gentle both visually and also for them to feel gentle when worn. I also wanted to keep freedom and asymmerty in the outlines of the pieces.’

‘Most of the design came while working the metal as I wanted the process to be organic, and hadn’t defined an exact form in my sketches. In the design phase I tested different surface textures, refining and shining the silver surface in varying ways. In the final version, it took on a nebulous character.’

‘The jewellery series was named PILVI, the Finnish word for a cloud. The thought of clouds slowly drifting in the sky is peaceful and even meditative. It is fascinating to think that one could behold this even in the PILVI jewellery pieces. I did not want the central design of the pieces to represent anything in particular. To me it was nice to realize that the pieces are open for interpretation, their shape awakening different associations in different people.’

Lokal Kollektion consists of locally handcrafted and produced products by various artisans, exclusively designed for Lokal. Representing the very core of Lokal, these pieces are timeless and long-lasting, made with the intention to be used and loved for generations to come.
