Tuominen likes to shape clay into plump girls and charming animals and uses ink to paint her everyday observations of the world. In her mosaics, she combines hard material and soft form. Her strengths as an artist include colours, form, and an open-minded, experimental attitude.

Tuominen was awarded the Finnish State Prize for Illustrations in 2017 and also won a user-centred design competition by Marimekko in 2006. She designs patterns for fabrics and products for design companies such as Marimekko and MUM’s. What’s more, she writes and illustrates children’s books together with the illustrator and graphic designer Jukka Pylväs. Tuominen actively participates in exhibitions in Finland and abroad. In her spare time, she enjoys gardening at her summer cottage and picking mushrooms and berries in the forest.

”In my work, I like to combine humour, hard surfaces and soft form.”
