White Wall | Anna Niskanen: Limbo 1.–24.10.2026
“The moon orbits us, and together with seven others we orbit the sun. The sun, too, spins and surges. Elements circle within us, changing form as they combine, melting when warmed and becoming something else when solid, to part and join with something other. Limbo is a collection of works based on photographs I have taken on the ground and in the sky. Hand-printed using different light-sensitive processes, these works are an ode to the fantastical clouds, eclipses, sunsets, and moments I have been offered to witness while moving from one place to another. The works are experiments in material and technique, in which I am encountering something new.”
Anna Niskanen (b. 1990) is a Helsinki-based Finnish visual artist working across tangible photography, installation and trace-based sculpture. She draws inspiration from remembering places visited and photography as an archiving tool to mediate memories. She is particularly interested in the idea of a souvenir: something collected to remember a moment, place, a person with and by. She approaches the theme with an archive of photographs by layering digital and analog processes to finally create handmade prints. Niskanen generally works with cyanotype and bichromate printing but lately she has been sampling different metals and organic pigments.
