Exhibition #52 – Blue Things

Matti Pikkujämsä & Jenni Rope

14.6.–19.8.2018

Jenni and Matti became friends when they were studying at the University of Art and Design in Helsinki in 1999. Blue Things is their first joint exhibition, and it is inspired by a shared interest in exploring the interface between arts and crafts, and experimenting with new materials. The themes of the exhibition are friendship, the colour blue and the modulating form of the square. Through experimenting with new techniques, they have found new ways to explore their own work in learning from each other. Placing two artistic approaches side by side has opened new perspectives into their practice.

Unique paintings and originals, as well as special designs for small Finnish manufacturers, are displayed at the exhibition. Mum’s, Lapuan Kankurit and Sarita Ceramics were selected to be the cooperative partners. The exhibition will be set up in Lokal now, and from there it will continue to the CASE Gallery in Tokyo in October 2018.

The exhibition is made possible with support from Arts Promotion Centre Finland

AT FIRST BLUSH | Lokal Gallery

29.5.–16.8.2026
This summer, Lokal spreads its budding branches across a few different addresses. Following by the group exhibition A Prima Vista at 3daysofdesign in Copenhagen, a homecoming exhibition, At First Blush, takes place in the Billnäs ironworks village at the peak of summer. Preceding it, we have a glimpse of it all at Lokal Gallery in Helsinki.

Exhibition #107 – Domus Primavera

21.2.–24.5.2026
All objects have an energy or spirit – and this of course implies objects of use, just as much as it is an inherent aspect of artwork. Art is a way of inhabiting existence, it is a state of being in its own right. Our homes can reflect something of that state; they are places that nourish us in the most instinctive of ways. Lokal’s spring exhibition spans over the entire transition of the seasons, bookmarked by a metamorphosis around the Spring Equinox.

Exhibition #106 – Matcha

7.1.–15.2.2026
The front space of Lokal Gallery will temporarily take the form of a teahouse, where, alongside Rutsuko Sakata’s and Kari Virtanen’s tearoom installation, meditative works by artists and makers from Fiskars will be on display.
