Bloom Young Artists’ Exhibition

Open Call for Submissions
Application deadline: Sunday 19.2.2023

We are delighted to be having our seventh Bloom exhibition, Lokal’s biannual young artists’ exhibition. Bloom has become an established platform for young blossoming creatives to present their works in a curated group exhibition context.

The 2023 edition of Bloom will be held at Lokal, Annankatu 9, as well as online, 5.5.–3.6.2023. Central to Lokal’s mission is to support emerging makers, make new connections, and promote the work of new visionaries – and this exhibition is of course no exception. Bloom exhibits the works of Finnish of Finland-based artists and artisans under the age of 35.

There is a focus on mainly art pieces and select unique design editions, and we kindly request you not to submit furniture design prototypes or homeware craft items.

Please send your application as one PDF file (max size 20MB) , including a short bio, 2–3 previous works, as well as your exhibition piece proposal to katja.hagelstam@lokalhelsinki.com. Your proposal can be either an existing piece or series, or something you are in the process of working on this coming spring.

Deadline for applications: Sunday 19.2.2023

Confirmation of participation: 28.2.2023

Works to be delivered to Lokal: 2.5.2023

Exhibition dates: 5.5.–3.6.2023

AT FIRST BLUSH | Lokal Gallery

29.5.–16.8.2026
This summer, Lokal spreads its budding branches across a few different addresses. Following by the group exhibition A Prima Vista at 3daysofdesign in Copenhagen, a homecoming exhibition, At First Blush, takes place in the Billnäs ironworks village at the peak of summer. Preceding it, we have a glimpse of it all at Lokal Gallery in Helsinki.

Exhibition #107 – Domus Primavera

21.2.–24.5.2026
All objects have an energy or spirit – and this of course implies objects of use, just as much as it is an inherent aspect of artwork. Art is a way of inhabiting existence, it is a state of being in its own right. Our homes can reflect something of that state; they are places that nourish us in the most instinctive of ways. Lokal’s spring exhibition spans over the entire transition of the seasons, bookmarked by a metamorphosis around the Spring Equinox.

Exhibition #106 – Matcha

7.1.–15.2.2026
The front space of Lokal Gallery will temporarily take the form of a teahouse, where, alongside Rutsuko Sakata’s and Kari Virtanen’s tearoom installation, meditative works by artists and makers from Fiskars will be on display.

Exhibition #105 – Matias Karsikas & Armi Teva / Loves Me, Loves Me not

18.10.–16.11.2025
In Karsikas’ sculptures, ceramics, glass and wood refer to the forms and organic rhythms of nature, while Teva’s works depict people balancing between the mystical and the everyday. The rebellion of Romanticism against the worship of reason was reflected in sentimentality, nature photography and a longing for the past. In this exhibition, it is expressed in slow working, an appreciation of craftsmanship and allowing materials to be imperfect and unpredictable.
