Danielle Yukari

Danielle Yukari is a Japanese-Brazilian artist currently based in Helsinki, Finland. Her work explores the repetitive gesture involved in the ceramics practice or in any other craft activity, with the production of functional objects that often feel like sculptures and sculptures that can be repurposed into practical tools. Yukari’s production combines everyday objects, with sculptural vessels and wall pieces, inviting the public to engage with the works on display by contemplating and/or using them. The specific use of colors, patterns, shapes and little drawings inform a practice based on experimentation, where the act of making is the work and the final piece is the documentation of it. Working with ceramic as the main medium, but also exploring with fabric, photography, drawing, performance and installation, Yukari is interested in how these objects can activate the space and people inserted in it, functioning as devices for rituals of contemplation and meditation. Daydreaming and resting are subjects constantly present in her research.
