Abstract

Saija Starr (b. 1980) is a painter living in Helsinki. Starr mainly paints with oil on canvas. Starr’s painting style is expressive, and colours play a most important role. Recent works depict nature and human nature, memories and memories of places that have left a strong trace in memory. These places include, for example, islands, mountains, seashores and gardens.

"In painting, it is more important for me to convey onto the canvas the emotional state, as well as the physicality and movement of painting, rather than a precisely defined theme. I focus on the moment: colour, line, numerous layers, the three-dimensionality brought by abundant paint and the feeling of the moment."
