Stockholm Creative Edition

Lokal is selected to participate in the third Stockholm Creative Edition, which will take place May 24th to 27th, 2023. Stockholm Creative Edition is an independent design week where Stockholm forms a fund for a new type of design festival where we showcase the best in Nordic design, furniture, lighting, art, and crafts.

SCE 2023 highlights a new wave of design initiatives. The theme for 2023 is Hey Future! A theme that shows how new visions and ambitions push the world of design forward. With Stockholm City as the backdrop, progressive and local design initiatives within furniture, lighting, arts and crafts, and much more, will be displayed in showrooms, pop-up premises, and other places.

Stockholm Creative Edition wants to be the natural platform for newly established designers and again this year invites newly graduated designers to participate in the NEW CONTEMPORARY exhibition. Stockholm Creative Edition was founded in 2021 by Ulrika & Philippe Attar of creative studio Atmosfär by Attar.

Lokal will be showcasing spring-themed gems by some of our favourite makers and visionaries; Antrei Hartikainen, Milla Vaahtera, Hanna-Kaisa Korolainen and Päivi Keski-Pomppu, all representing a new generation of who we consider to be future icons in Finnish art, craft and design. Antrei Hartikainen is a woodworker and artist, creating his pieces both out of wood, by means of varied fine techniques, as well as unique glassware, lending its visual language from wood. Milla Vaahtera is an exceptional glassblower, metalworker and all-around artist; her glass and brass pieces embody both aesthetic perfection as well as flamboyant play. Hanna-Kaisa Korolainen is a multidisciplinary artist, with her mediums varying from tufted rya textiles and painted silks to vases in hand-built ceramic and glass. Päivi Keski-Pomppu’s jewellery is like wearable art; true handcrafted gems in mostly sterling silver.

Factory 2: Correspondences, Helsinki

2.–20.7.2025, Lokal

In this iteration of Correspondences at Lokal, the artists engage with nature through the work of their hands, allowing different experiences of time and place to overlap and intertwine within a shared space. As they quietly respond to one another—through gazes, gestures, and unspoken dialogue—the exhibition becomes a momentary commune, where enduring relationships from distant places gather briefly and tenderly.

SOMMARSTILLEBEN

15.6.–24.8.2025
This summer, Lokal makes an all-summer-long expedition to Billnäs, an old ironworks village to the West of Helsinki. Bringing beauty in the form of artwork, crafts and handmade homeware into a space which still starkly echoes its unique history, the Sommarstilleben exhibition is a celebration of Lokal’s core values. The still lifes are an ode to the magical, fleeting nature of the Nordic summer. The abundance consists of works in various mediums and materials, in varying scale and subject, by a number of Finnish and Finland-based contemporary artists and artisans.
