She gained her BA in Visual Culture from the University of Art and Design Helsinki in 2004, and a fine art qualification from the Turku Academy of Arts in 2001. She has also studied textiles and metalwork. Tuominen likes to shape clay into plump girls and charming animals and uses ink to paint her everyday observations of the world.
