Janna Syvänoja is a visual artist from Helsinki. Her works are part of over 40 international collections. Nature, its materials and events are an inexhaustible source of joy and inspiration for Janna Syvänoja. She collects materials from nature, studies natural forms and wants to understand the nature and properties of materials. The constant change that occurs in nature – growth, flowering, withering and decay, as well as the changes of the seasons, weather conditions, changes and effects of light – all of these in turn offer endless reasons for wonder. Materials accumulate in warehouses and unique moments are recorded in photographs, until one day they find their way into sculptures, collages, paintings, jewelry or installations.

The artist strives to maintain an exploratory and experimental approach to her work. She embraces what nature offers, suggests collaborations, and challenges both the material and herself. At best, this chance encounter and successful contact bear fruit.
