Matias Liimatainen, sculptor, born 1989, lives and works in Helsinki. His sculptures are often figure-like shapes of which forms are graphic and refined. He borrows shapes directly from the field of industrial design and combines the forms with his distinct and freer style and hand-built finishing. He uses mainly ceramics as material which ties together different combinations of forms into an unforeseen completeness. Matias aims at showing light humoristic attitude in his works, which makes them more approachable to public. His works juxtaposes associations: homely and natural flora with robotics and form-language of computer games, or material contra form. The sculptures are very formalistic and can speak their simple massage on their own behalf.
