Juha-Pekka Laakio

Juha-Pekka Laakio (b. 1956) is a photographer and photo artist from Helsinki. In recent years, he has focused on food photography, photographing commissions as well as his own artistic projects. He has had solo and group exhibitions both in Finland and in several European countries, including Denmark, France and Belgium. His photos are included in private collections as well as in collections such as that of the Museum of Photography.

“My photos open up to a twisted world that relies on food photography without being solely that. The style of photography differs from the documentary line, moving closer to fine art without losing touch with photography itself.

The starting point is often a food arrangement, which transforms into an abstract, two-dimensional image, gaining its final meaning only in the mind of the viewer.”
