Matti Pikkujämsä (b. 1976) has worked as a freelance illustrator and artist since 1999. He works between art and illustration, making free paintings and drawings in addition to commissions. He has illustrated twenty children’s books, book covers and magazines, for example Helsingin Sanomat. In addition to publications, he has also designed textiles. He has been awarded the Rudolf Koivu Award and the State Art Award, and was chosen Illustrator of the Year in 2019.
“I have been drawing and painting since I was little, for as long as I remember. I have noticed that it is the most natural way for me to be, and take my place in the world. Drawing is observation, I am an observer.”
