The roots in this sculpture by Sasha Huber and Petri Saarikko come from the Saarikko family farm in Asikkala, Southern Finland. For Saarikko, the sculpture represents his family roots, while for Huber it means leaving hers behind, but also putting down new roots in a new country. The charred roots resemble limbs and body parts. On a more general level, they also refer to destruction by humans and of humans, from the Holocaust to natural disasters.
