Mariam Falaileh (b. 1990) is a Helsinki based visual artist, who mainly works with ceramics. She is a painter by training, but makes installations, sculptures serigraphy works. Falaileh explores the interaction between the unconscious mind and extrasensory reality, as well as the relationship between man and nature. Her imagery contains references to mysticism and the spirit world. She is just about to graduate with a Master’s degree from the Academy of Fine Arts of the University of the Arts Helsinki.
“In my works, I manifest or deal with subconscious experiences, as well as difficult or unpleasant things. I try to sculpt the thoughts into something beautiful and easily approachable. I see sculpture as a way of scripting or staging a scenario or a story, through which the viewer can understand some experience and sort of “step into” that world.”
