Maija Käyhkö

Maija Käyhkö (born 1992), is a sculptor who lives and works in Helsinki. Her works explore the potential of modular structures and mixed media materials by incorporating found objects, woodwork, and casting techniques to create compositions that often reference architecture and everyday objects. Employing a reduced selection of materials, careful handwork and seriality, her diagram-like arrangements of repetitive modules seemingly follow an agenda of clarity and certainty. However, the components of the works often behave counteractively towards that agenda: they may be fragile and prone to change, suggesting potential for continuous reconstruction and reorganization. Käyhkö is graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts Helsinki in spring 2023. Her works have been featured in various exhibitions both in Finland and internationally.
