”My work often starts with an atmosphere that I want to make concrete. The atmosphere I want to capture is static and silent, a little moment of everyday life. My design language is minimalist, and I aim to make my work very approachable with a timeless, pleasant and even familiar feel.

Sometimes the idea for an object arises from a technique or material, which may only be manifest in a small detail. The artisan process makes every object unique.

At my workshop, I continually develop new slips and glazes, which move my work forward: it’s about a constant dialogue between form and material, which both inspire each other.

The multifaceted nature of ceramics fascinates me: the transparency of porcelain, the rough and down-to-earth feel of the clay, and the depth and vivid shine of a glazed surface. The same form looks different depending on the material, the surface treatment, or the thickness of the object. For example, very thin porcelain resembles paper, and a shiny glazed object often looks like glass. When looking at, or using an object, you might not initially understand what material it is made of. Even though ideas rarely stem from functionality, the end result is a functional object, which adds happiness and beauty to its owner’s life. It is this interaction that I find most rewarding in my work.”
